Our drive day this month is to Beeac. The owner of the hotel has a car collection which we hope to view on the day. We have done this one before and it was worth re-visiting.
Interclub Hill Climb Challenge – Round 1 – Rob Roy – March 18, 2018
Another year rolls around and the Interclub Hill Climb is on us again. This is always a fun day (weather permitting) and the challenge has been won by the RCCV twice. In 2010 and again last year.
Now we want to be greedy and win it in consecutive years. To do this we need as many competitors as possible. I know a couple of our regulars are not available for this round due to vehicle issues and other commitments.
To be eligible, your car needs to be mechanically sound and fitted with a current fire extinguisher. As a driver, you will need a compliant helmet and be covered from neck to ankles and wrists in non flammable material (cotton or wool). You will also need to be a current club member and hold a current CAMS 2S licence. Licence application can be completed on the day or by prior arrangement with the Membership Secretary.
Our Geelong Revival Team
It was a big production a the Geelong Revival last November. You can read a bit about our runners in this post.
As major sponsor, Renault Australia had some media action going on too. Here’s some Youtube clips of our team.

Renault Round-Up 2018
The Round-Up is back – 18th February
As usual, the Renault Round-Up car display is open to all classic and modern Renaults. Unlike last year, we will have fair weather and sunshine this year. We will, promise. Well, we included that in our order at least.
Location this year is the same as last year – the Caribbean Gardens in Scoresby. There are two entrances; one off Ferntree Gully Road less than one km from the Eastlink Tollway exit and another off Stud Road. Below the flyer is a map showing in more detail where the display area is in the Gardens.
Non-RCCV club members are especially welcome to display their car at the Round-Up. It’s the best value car show around – free to display your car and free for everyone to come and view. Apart from the $2.50 Caribbean Gardens charge for vehicle entry to the venue.
But for that $2.50 you get so much more… the Caribbean Gardens is a great family-friendly setting with something for everyone. There’s the market (for the Dads), playground and rides (for the Mums) and, of course, masses of Renaults for the Kids. We’re avoiding the stereotyping this year, or is that just swapping it around?
The Round-Up is supported this year by Alpine Affaire, Berwick Tyrepower, Qualitool and Renault Australia. For this concours event there will be awards for Best Post-2001 Renault, Best Pre-2001 Renault, Best Sporting Renault (covering RS, Alpine and Gordini), People’s Choice and, of course, Best Renault in Show. In addition, we plan to have a door prize and a raffle – you don’t have to be concours competitive to walk away with a prize.
We’re also working on a special treat display which we’ll tell you about later when the concrete starts to set . . .
Cars can arrive from from 8:30am and the show formally starts at 9:30 and runs to around 3pm. Concours award presentation scheduled for 1:30 – 2:00 pm.

Renault servicing back in Richmond
Central Renault is here
Members may recall that the long-running business, Melbourne City Renault, went into liquidation last year. City Renault had traded for many years in at the southern end of Church St, Richmond. Taken over by new owners in 2014, the restructured business opened new service and sales facilities in South Melbourne but soon went under.
Near-city Renault owners now have an alternative they can access for service needs. The parent company of Brighton Renault, which also operates Peninsula Renault in Frankston, have opened Central Renault which offers full vehicle servicing workshops at 1-7 Kingston St., Richmond.
Service Manager, Cory Sant, reports that the workshops have a good range of staff, several of whom are French-trained. Cory can be contacted on 9429 7045

Geelong Revival – November 25 & 26, 2017
At the Geelong Revival last Saturday we had Graeme Edwards (Clio2 182) competing in the sprints and John Elliott (Alpine GTA Turbo ) in the Hill climb. Ernst Luthi (currently RCCA) and Barry McAdie (ROCC) also competed in the Hill climb in their Alpine A110’s. Graeme won his class in the Clio.
On the Sunday John and Ernst again took on the hill whilst Colin Stark (Dauphine Gordini), Angelo Simonetto (R8 Gordini)and Paul Stewart (R17 Gordini) tackled the sprint. Barry McAdie also joined them in his A110. I believe John won his class in the Hill climb but I have been unable to find out hoe our members placed on Sunday.
Renault Australia were major sponsor and wheeled out the V6 Megane Trophy for demonstration runs on both days driven by Supercar driver Dean Canto.
We had a club display in Shannons Motorshow on the Sunday with 12 Renaults in the line-up.
Drive Day October 21st 2017
Saturday Evening Run & Drive-in Movie
The October drive day is a Saturday night ‘contest’ run starting with a BBQ dinner at Jells Park, Wheelers Hill and finishing with a movie at the Coburg Drive-in.
There will be two competitions / games on the drive, which will take 2 – 2-1/2 hours (1-3/4hr actual drive time).
One is a ‘regularity’ style timed driving between three check-points – contestants will score points according to how far from a target time (more or less) each contestant arrives at the check-point. Lowest final points wins. P-plate drivers get a discount of 1/3 off their time difference and Learner drivers get a discount of 1/2 off to level up the playing field. It takes about 35 – 40 mins between check-points.
Between consecutive check-points, there will be two marker points where contestants will be required to take a photo to show they passed through the point. Vehicles will depart at 1 min intervals. Drivers will have instructions with all the points given but the route between points will be of their choosing.
The second game is a card game with Renault models on cards instead of normal playing cards. At the start and each check-point players will get cards and may swap cards for different ones. Contestants covertly trading or selling cards among themselves is unlikely to be detected.
Obviously the driving contest is per vehicle, the card game is per person. Prizes will be awarded.
The BBQ will start at 4:30 and run for an hour. For catering purposes please advise your intention to attend by 19th October to
The Jells Park ‘Oaks and Ashes’ picnic area is in Wheelers Hill, entrance is off Ferntree Gully Rd just down from the Eastlink Fwy (see https://www.google.com.au
