Sporting Championship Progress Points to 1 November

Following is the point standings up to and including Round 3 of the Rob Roy Interclub Hillclimb Challenge on 25th October 2015.

Rob Roy Club Challenge – Round 3, 25 October 2015

We had a smaller contingent at the final round of the club challenge but some good results.

Colin Stark in his A110 won Class C (1601 cc to 2000 cc) with a time of 25.07 sec which was incredible as he had only one run for the day and the the motor shut down with an electrical gremlin before the finish line.  Graeme Edwards in a RS Clio came second in the same class with a time of 26.14 sec.

Geoff Rasmussen in his R4 took third place in Class A (up to 1300 cc) with his fastest time ever up the hill of 47.56 sec. Unfortunately he did it on his first run of the day and could not improve the result.

They now record terminal speed for cars as they cross the finish line. Colin’s time for his run was 109 kmh, Graeme’s was 107 kmh over three runs with Geoff’s fastest time maxing out at 41 kmh.

John Elliott had radiator pressurisation issues with his GTA and only completed threthirde runs but ended fifth in class with a time of 26.81 sec.

We also had Dave Cavanagh representing the club along with his son Chris (representing PCCV) driving a Peugeot 306 GTi6. Dave took out the honours between them with 28.23 sec compared to Chris  at 28.66 sec.  Better luck next time Chris.

As a team, we came third on the day and fourth overall.

Rob Roy Hill Climb – 30 August 2016

IMG_0761 From having four competitors at the first round of the Club Challenge, our effort more than doubled for round two with nine entries.

We had two class wins with John Hardy taking out Class B with his A110 and Colin Stark winning Class C with his A110. Colin has moved from Class B to C with the upgrade (and increased capacity) of his engine.

Our other competitors were David Bertuch (RS 275 Trophy+), Geoff Rasmussen (R4), Paul Stewart (R17TS), Graeme Edwards (RS Clio 2), Chris Armstrong (RS Clio 2), Glenn Armstrong (RS 265) and last but not least Dave Cavanagh (Peugeot 306GTI).

It was a good day for most with Geoff Rasmussen and Paul Stewart achieving personal best times. The day started out slow with a cold and greasy track but times improved as the track warmed up a little. Unfortunately the temperature itself remained cold all day.

Also unfortunately, there was a bit of the downer on the day. Whilst completing the third run of the day, Chris Armstrong came to grief, putting the Clio on its side at turn two. He emerged from the car with a few aches and pains but otherwise un-injured. The ambulance crew did a great job in making sure he was OK. As for the Clio, there is damage to drivers’ door and rear quarter panel which hopefully can be repaired without too much financial distress. We all know going into these events that accidents are possible, and this is a risk we accept when we participate in motor sport.

Entry in the hill climb also accrues points toward the club sporting championship. Progressive totals are listed elsewhere on the website.

Rob Roy Interclub Challenge Round 2

The second of the 3-round challenge. The contest this year between the clubs is really for second place as the MG club are dominating attendance.

The RCCV is currently lying in fifth place, however that’s likely due to a low turn out for the first round – we can do much better. We won the interclub challenge a few years ago so clearly we’ve got it in us!

So dust off your helmet, fit that extinguisher and get your entry in.

RCCV Sporting Award Progress

Commencing in the calendar year 2015, the Committee has introduced a sporting award for members representing RCCV in CAMS sanctioned events (eg circuit racing, regularity events, hillclimbs, motorkhanas, sprints, rallies etc.)

A progressive points score will be maintained by the Sporting Coordinator to the following formula :

Entry in event 1 Point
Outright win Plus 10 points
1st Place in Class Plus 3 Points
2nd Place in Class Plus 2 Points
3rd Place in Class Plus 1 Point

RCCV Sporting Champion

New club sporting competition for 2015

The club is introducing a annual sporting championship for club members. The competition is for a single ‘RCCV Sporting Champion’ across all sporting disciplines, be they hill climb, sprints, motorkhana or other.

The club doesn’t have the capacity to conduct competitive sporting events on it’s own so the championship is based on member’s results in events run by other clubs. Any CAMS affiliated club event in which a member participates in is eligible and members do not need to be competing in a full competition – for example, having a run at one of the Rob Roy Interclub Challenge hillclimb counts. It’s possible that singular success at a one-off event may trump a year’s effort in another competition if that resulted in little success.

The championship runs for a calendar year and ‘entry’ is automatic on entry into a CAMS club event anywhere in Australia. Competitors will need to provide advice of entry and results so we can maintain a tally. There’ll be a trophy and prize, and 2015 will be a trial year.

Scoring is
1 point for participation
3 points for 1st place, 2 for 2nd and 1 for 3rd in class 10 points for an outright win at the event

Points will be based on the normal scoring method for that particular discipline of motor sport eg. Hillclimbs the fastest run is used and Motorkhanas the best elapsed time.
